Timothy J. Burns

Mr. Burns, together with Mr. Gould and Mr. Harrison, is responsible for strategic direction at ALR including acquisitions, management, dispositions, financing and capital formation. Previously, Mr. Burns was Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager of Heitman Capital, an institutional real estate investment advisor with over $20 billion in assets under management. Mr. Burns’ portfolio at Heitman included $2 billion of multi-family, office, industrial and retail assets.

Mr. Burns began his career with JMB Institutional Realty Corp. in 1989. He was part of the accounting group responsible for financial reporting for several of JMB’s commingled funds. In 1991 Mr. Burns was named portfolio analyst for these funds and his responsibilities expanded to include valuation analysis, lease analysis, disposition, and market analysis.

In 1994, Heitman Advisory Corporation purchased JMB Institutional Realty and merged the operations of the units into one. Mr. Burns was named Portfolio Manager for several funds and separate accounts including, Los Angeles Fire and Police Pension Systems, State of Florida, and the State of Colorado. Additionally, Mr. Burns was portfolio manager for JMB Group Trust V, the largest commingled fund invested by JMB. Assets included Stonestown Galleria and Apartments, Miami International Commerce Center and several other large assets with values in excess of $100M each. While managing these funds Mr. Burns led the value enhancement strategies whereby the Fund significantly outperformed its relevant index returns.

Mr. Burns has been responsible for the acquisition, financing, renovation, asset management and disposition of over 8,000 residential units, 10 million sf of industrial/warehouse, and four million sf of retail property.

Mr. Burns received a BA in accounting from Western Michigan University, is a Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the Urban Land Institute.
